Mesothelioma is a malignant tumor found in the lining of the chest, or abdominal cavity. About 3,500 cases of this rare cancer are diagnosed in the U.S. each year. Most individuals who are diagnosed have been directly exposed to asbestos.
If you suspect or are concerned about asbestos related disease you should meet with your doctor immediately. He will discuss with you your medical and work history to assess risk factors relevant to related cancer. Some of the following individuals are considered at higher risk:
Workers who -
Manufacture Asbestos Products
Miners in contact with Asbestos fibers
Install heating products, and construction laborers
Some family members may have been exposed by workers bringing home clothing tainted with asbestos fibers.
Signs of Mesothelioma include chest pain, fluid in the lungs or abdomen, and shortness of breath. These symptoms can be found in a chest x-ray, or biopsy.
