There are two types of mesothelioma. Malignant mesothelioma is a tumor with fibrous and epithelial properties. Epithelial mesothelioma are known to have a better prognosis than the other types of mesothelioma.
There are three known stages of mesothelioma. Localized malignant mesothelioma, advanced malignant mesothelioma, and peritoneal mesothelioma.
Localized malignant mesothelioma treatment occasionally will bring a cure with aggressive surgery. Surgery usually involves the removal of a portion of the lung, and diaphragm.
Advanced Malignant mesothelioma treatment is more serious, and surgery may be preformed to removed the majority of the tumor. Radiation is also recommended in addition to surgery. Some new investigational therapies are becoming more and more promising every day.
Peritoneal Mesothelioma treatment is very difficult, mostly because most patients by the time it's diagnoses, the cancer is widespread. Removal of the tumors leading to a cure is rarely possible.
